{"id":3100,"date":"2025-07-23T15:05:03","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T19:05:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cadimmigration.com\/?p=3100"},"modified":"2025-07-23T15:05:05","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T19:05:05","slug":"quebec-reaches-cap-on-family-sponsorship-applications-for-parents-and-grandparents-until-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cadimmigration.com\/?p=3100","title":{"rendered":"Quebec Reaches Cap on Family Sponsorship Applications for Parents and Grandparents Until 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Residents of Quebec who were planning to sponsor their <strong>parents, grandparents<\/strong>, or certain <strong>other relatives<\/strong> for permanent residency will now have to wait\u2014<strong>the cap on sponsorship undertakings for these categories has officially been reached<\/strong>, according to an announcement from the <strong>Minist\u00e8re de l&#8217;Immigration, de la Francisation et de l&#8217;Int\u00e9gration (MIFI)<\/strong> on <strong>July 22, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This development comes <strong>just days before<\/strong> the federal government is set to begin issuing invitations under its <strong>2025 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Cap Details and Deadlines<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Quebec originally introduced this two-year sponsorship cap on <strong>June 26, 2024<\/strong>, which will remain in effect until <strong>June 25, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <strong>Total Sponsorship Undertaking Limit: 13,000 Applications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> <strong>10,400<\/strong> spots for <strong>spouses, common-law partners, and adult dependent children<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> <strong>2,600<\/strong> spots for <strong>parents, grandparents, and certain other relatives<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>2,600 quota<\/strong> for sponsoring <strong>parents and grandparents<\/strong> was officially <strong>met on July 22, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>10,400 quota<\/strong> for <strong>spouses and adult children<\/strong> was filled earlier on <strong>July 9, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">What Happens Now?<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>New sponsorship applications<\/strong> for these categories will <strong>not be accepted<\/strong> until the next window opens after <strong>June 25, 2026<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any undertakings submitted <strong>beyond the cap<\/strong> will be <strong>returned without being processed<\/strong>, and <strong>all associated fees will be refunded<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The cap <strong>does not apply<\/strong> to:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Dependent children under 18<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Children dependent due to disability<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Adding dependents<\/strong> to existing files<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Quebec&#8217;s Sponsorship Process<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To sponsor a family member for <strong>Canadian permanent residency in Quebec<\/strong>, applicants must first submit an <strong>undertaking agreement<\/strong> to the Quebec government. Once approved, this leads to the issuance of a <strong>Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ)<\/strong>\u2014a necessary document to continue the immigration process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Federal Program Still Active<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Quebec\u2019s cap has closed the door for now, <strong>the federal government\u2019s PGP is still open<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beginning <strong>July 28, 2025<\/strong>, <strong>17,860 invitations<\/strong> will be sent out to potential sponsors who <strong>submitted interest forms in 2020<\/strong>.
