ONTARIO INTRODUCING EXPRESSION OF INTEREST SYSTEM (OINP)

Posted by in CIC News, on October 6, 2020

Ontario immigration introducing Expression of Interest System to manage application process for the potential candidates.

The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development introduced the changes in a proposal published on Tuesday, September 8.

This would be called as the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program i.e. OINP and will have the expression of Interest for the below mentioned streams:-

The OINP will work in the same way as the Federal Express Entry System. Thus, the candidates will register the OINP and enter the selection pool. The applicants will fill in their personal information and other human capital and labour market information precisely in order to receive an ITA (invitation to apply).

Some regulatory amendments in the proposal include the following:

  • Conducting both general and targeted draws.
  • Score prospective candidates in the EOI pool.
  • Determining and publishing EOI point allocations.
  • Allocating points to various factors including education and language skills.
  • Issuing ITAs to the top-scoring candidates.

Ontario says the introduction of an EOI system will allow it to better respond to specific labour market needs, manage high OINP demand and prioritize the best candidates.

Many Canadian provinces already have their own EOI systems, including Quebec, which launched the Arrima platform in 2018, making the first invitations in 2019.

Ontario is asking for stakeholder feedback on the plan to introduce an EOI system. A consultation period is open until October 23, 2020.
