Alberta Issues 158 Invitations in Two Provincial Immigration Draws This May
Alberta continues to move forward with its immigration goals for 2025. Through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), the province recently conducted two separate draws, inviting a total of 158 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.
The draws were held on May 13 and May 15, targeting two different immigration pathways: the Alberta Opportunity Stream and the Tourism and Hospitality Stream.
Breakdown of the Latest AAIP Draws
Draw Date | Immigration Stream | Invitations Issued | Minimum Cut-Off Score |
---|---|---|---|
May 15 | Tourism and Hospitality Stream | 33 | 72 |
May 13 | Alberta Opportunity Stream | 125 | 76 |
Total | 158 |
Tourism and Hospitality Stream: Targeted Labour Support
This was only the second time in 2025 that Alberta has issued invitations under the Tourism and Hospitality Stream. Launched in 2024, the stream was created to support employers in the hospitality sector who are facing labour shortages.
Eligibility Criteria Include:
- A minimum of six months of continuous employment with an approved Alberta tourism or hospitality employer.
- A valid full-time job offer in the sector.
- Meeting language and education requirements set by the program.
The stream is proving vital for retaining essential workers in roles such as hotel staff, restaurant workers, and front-line service professionals across Alberta.
Alberta Opportunity Stream: Broader Workforce Demand
The May 13 draw under the Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) invited 125 candidates with a minimum score of 76. This is the second general draw under AOS in 2025, following earlier rounds that targeted specialized fields like aviation and construction.
This stream caters to a wider range of occupations and continues to play a central role in Alberta’s workforce development strategy.
2025 AAIP Allocation & Current Pool Status
Alberta has been allocated 4,875 nomination spaces for 2025. So far, 2,077 nominations have been issued, indicating that the province is on track with its immigration targets.
Current Program Status:
Stream | 2025 Allocation | Spaces Remaining | EOIs in Pool |
---|---|---|---|
Tourism and Hospitality | 245 | 122 | 5,755 |
Alberta Opportunity Stream | 2,592 | 1,376 | 37,934 |
Candidates who received invitations in either draw can now submit their full provincial nomination application. A successful nomination greatly strengthens their chances of obtaining Canadian permanent residence through the federal immigration system.
Final Thoughts
As Alberta navigates its 2025 immigration targets, it continues to strategically focus on labour market needs and retaining skilled talent across essential industries. These draws are not only a sign of continued provincial support for immigration but also a reminder for aspiring candidates to stay up-to-date with program changes and prepare their profiles accordingly.
For those already in the pool, maintaining a strong Expression of Interest (EOI) and fulfilling eligibility requirements remains critical.
