Alberta Boosts Immigration with Targeted Draws Across Priority Sectors
Alberta continues to leverage its immigration streams to address key labor shortages across vital industries, with multiple rounds of invitations issued under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) between July 3 and July 16, 2025. Hundreds of foreign workers were invited to apply for provincial nomination, which opens a direct pathway to permanent residency in Canada.
Targeted Invitations to Fill Key Workforce Gaps
In total, six immigration draws were conducted over a two-week period, focusing on sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, aviation, construction, and law enforcement. These draws reflect Alberta’s growing need for skilled workers in critical occupations.
The majority of the invitations were issued through the Alberta Opportunity Stream, which supports temporary foreign workers currently employed in Alberta. Other selections were made under the Alberta Express Entry Stream, including specialized pathways like the Dedicated Healthcare Pathway, Aviation, and Law Enforcement.
Summary of Recent Alberta Immigration Draws
| Draw Date | Stream | Minimum Score | Invitations Issued |
|---|---|---|---|
| July 16, 2025 | Alberta Express Entry – Law Enforcement Pathway | 49 | Fewer than 10 |

How Alberta Is Prioritizing Immigration Streams in 2025
The AAIP announced earlier this year that it will continue to prioritize candidates in four key economic sectors:
- Healthcare
- Construction
- Aviation
- Agriculture
Additionally, three designated pathways under the Alberta Express Entry Stream—Law Enforcement, Accelerated Tech, and Healthcare—are receiving focused attention.
Progress Report: AAIP Allocations & Nomination Targets for 2025
| Stream | 2025 Quota | Nominations Issued (as of July 16) | Remaining | EOIs in Pool |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alberta Opportunity Stream | 2,592 | 1,608 | 984 | 40,623 |
| Alberta Express Entry – Law Enforcement | 20 | <10 | N/A | 116 |
| Dedicated Healthcare Pathway (All) | 500 | 251 | 249 | 1,623 |
| Express Entry – Priority Sectors (All) | 405 | 244 | 161 | 4,302 |
So far, 2,895 nominations have been issued out of Alberta’s annual limit of 4,875, leaving 1,980 spots available for the remainder of 2025. The AAIP currently has 2,311 applications under review.
What This Means for Applicants
For foreign workers—especially those already working in Alberta or qualified in targeted industries—now is the time to apply. Alberta’s clear prioritization of strategic sectors and faster processing of enhanced streams like Express Entry offers a powerful opportunity to transition from temporary status to permanent residence.
Interested candidates should ensure their profiles are active in the Express Entry system, and check if they are eligible for one of Alberta’s priority streams or designated pathways.
