Canada Reopens Parents & Grandparents Program with New Draw Beginning July 28, 2025
July 28, 2025 – Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has officially reopened the highly anticipated Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) for the 2025 intake. Starting today, IRCC will issue 17,860 invitations to apply (ITAs) over approximately two weeks, aiming to receive 10,000 complete sponsorship applications for permanent residence.
Invitations are being sent exclusively to Canadian citizens and permanent residents who submitted an Interest-to-Sponsor form in 2020, and who have not received an ITA in any previous year from 2020 through 2024.
Eligibility & Notification
Prospective sponsors should monitor the email address used in 2020, including spam and junk folders, for the official ITA notification from IRCC. Selected individuals will receive detailed instructions on how to apply through the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative PR Portal, depending on whether they are applying individually or via an authorized representative.
About the Sponsorship Process
Once invited, sponsors must submit both:
- The sponsorship application to become an official sponsor.
- The permanent residence application on behalf of the parent(s) or grandparent(s).
Both applications are submitted online via the PR Portal. If more than one principal applicant is involved, each must submit their application separately. Special accommodations are available for applicants unable to file online.
Fees & Deadlines
Applications must include all required forms and application fees, starting from approximately CAD 1,205, which may vary based on your family situation. Missing documents or unpaid fees will lead to application refusal. Applicants must act swiftly, as incomplete submissions will not be processed and may be returned by IRCC.
Super Visa Option
For those not selected in this round, the IRCC highlights the Super Visa—a separate multiple-entry visa valid for up to 10 years, permitting stays of up to five years per visit. This offers an alternative path for family reunification in the short to medium term
