Alberta Conducts One of Its Largest Immigration Rounds of 2025, Issuing Over 1,100 Invitations

Alberta has completed one of its biggest immigration selections of the year, distributing a total of 1,125 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for provincial nomination through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) between November 10 and 14, 2025.
These invitations were issued across two targeted draws focused on attracting skilled workers with strong ties to the province, high-ranking profiles, and professionals working in critical healthcare roles.

The latest activity demonstrates Alberta’s intention to utilize its expanded 2025 nomination quota and address ongoing labour shortages across essential sectors.

Breakdown of AAIP Draws (November 10–14, 2025)

1. Alberta Opportunity Stream – November 10

This round marked Alberta’s second-largest draw of the year, with:

  • 1,045 invitations issued
  • Minimum selection score: 55

The Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) supports temporary foreign workers who are already contributing to Alberta’s labour market. To qualify, applicants must:

  • Hold a valid full-time job offer from an eligible Alberta employer
  • Possess a valid work permit
  • Meet education, language, occupation, and residency requirements
  • Have hands-on work experience in the province

The AOS remains the AAIP’s biggest pathway, with an annual nomination capacity exceeding 3,656 spots. As of November 19, the province had granted 3,120 nominations, leaving 536 spots remaining for 2025.
More than 1,100 applications are currently waiting in the AOS processing inventory.

2. Alberta Express Entry Stream – Priority Healthcare Sector – November 14

A separate targeted round was held for professionals in priority healthcare occupations. This draw issued:

  • 80 invitations
  • Minimum score: 52

This was the second healthcare-focused draw under the AAIP’s Express Entry Stream this year. These draws are essential for filling shortages across Alberta’s healthcare system, targeting candidates already in the federal Express Entry pool who can integrate more quickly into the province.

To date, Alberta has issued 494 nominations through priority sector selections under this stream, from a total 2025 allocation of 660 spots.

The Express Entry Stream is an enhanced PNP pathway, allowing Alberta to directly select high-potential candidates from Canada’s federal pool. The province operates several dedicated sub-streams targeting fields including technology, aviation, construction, agriculture, law enforcement, and healthcare.

Alberta Receives Major Increase in 2025 Nomination Allocation

In 2025, Alberta secured a significant increase in its annual nomination quota from the federal government. The province’s cap rose by 1,728 spots—from 4,875 to a new total of 6,603 nominations.

This restored roughly 67% of Alberta’s previous 2024 allocation of 9,750 spots, following the nationwide reductions introduced last year.

However, provincial authorities confirmed that this expanded allocation will not carry over into 2026. Alberta intends to utilize the full quota this year, suggesting more frequent and possibly larger draws for the remainder of 2025.
