Prince Edward Island Launches 2026 PNP Selections with Strong Focus on International Graduates

Prince Edward Island has officially opened its 2026 provincial immigration cycle with a targeted selection round under the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). The draw was conducted on January 15, aligning with the province’s anticipated Invitation to Apply schedule for the year.

This first draw of 2026 emphasized candidates who are already living and working in the province, with particular priority given to international graduates from Prince Edward Island’s key educational institutions. The approach reflects PEI’s continued effort to retain talent that has studied locally and is contributing to the provincial workforce.

Overview of Invitations Issued

In this initial selection round, 26 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) were issued to in-province candidates across two immigration categories:

  • Labour Impact Category
  • PEI Express Entry Category

The Labour Impact Category includes three streams:

  • Skilled Worker Stream
  • Critical Worker Stream
  • International Graduate Stream

Candidates working in occupations deemed to have a high economic impact were prioritized, especially those employed in sectors facing persistent labour shortages.

Priority Sectors Remain Unchanged for 2026

Prince Edward Island confirmed that its priority sectors for 2026 remain consistent with those identified in 2025. These sectors continue to drive selection decisions under the PEI PNP:

  • Healthcare
  • Skilled trades
  • Manufacturing

Applicants working in these industries were strongly favored, particularly if they demonstrated long-term settlement potential in the province.

International Graduates Take Center Stage

A defining feature of this draw was the heightened focus on international student graduates. Among eligible candidates, graduates from the following designated learning institutions received additional priority:

  • University of Prince Edward Island
  • Holland College
  • Collège de l’Île

This selection pattern mirrors several draws conducted throughout 2025, suggesting that PEI will continue to emphasize locally educated graduates as a cornerstone of its immigration strategy in 2026.

How This Draw Compares to Last Year

For context, Prince Edward Island’s first draw of 2025 issued 22 invitations, primarily targeting individuals working in the healthcare sector or holding confirmed job offers in that field.

The slight increase in invitations this year, along with the continued emphasis on international graduates and priority occupations, indicates a stable and predictable provincial nomination strategy moving forward.

Expected Timeline for Upcoming PEI Draws

If Prince Edward Island follows its anticipated draw schedule, additional selection rounds are expected around:

  • February 19
  • March 19
  • April 16

While these dates are provisional and subject to change, the province adhered closely to its announced schedule in 2025, conducting draws on the planned dates for the majority of the year.

How Candidates Can Prepare for Future Draws

To be considered for future PEI PNP invitations, interested candidates must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the province’s official system.

EOI profiles are ranked based on several key factors, including:

  • Language proficiency in English and/or French
  • Education level, field of study, and location of studies
  • Work experience and alignment with in-demand occupations
  • Relevance to PEI’s strategic labour market priorities
  • Employment prospects, including job offers and Canadian work experience

Candidates with higher scores and strong economic and settlement potential are more likely to receive an invitation for provincial nomination.
