Express Entry- Did CRS drop in its latest draw?

Posted by in CIC News, on December 24, 2020

Canada caps off the year with 107,350 invitations issued to the candidates in the Express Entry pool.

The cut-off for the latest draw held on December 23 was lower than the last two rounds. Around 5,000 invitations were sent to candidates with a minimum score of 468. The new CRS requirement is just slightly lower than the last draw held on December 9, when candidates needed a minimum score of 469.

With this draw, the total number of Invitations (ITA’s) sent this year closes to 107,350, which is a record number of invitations ever sent in a year.

The last round of ITA was the forth consecutive round of 5,000 invitations issues to applicants for Canadian permanent residency. There has been a marginal and consistent increase in the number of ITA’s issued in all of the Express Entry draws since September 2, even during the pandemic.

During the early months of Covid-19 pandemic and the strict travel restrictions, IRCC had conducted program specific immigration draws. However, now, since last few months, the Government of Canada is ensuring and taking steps to facilitate the immigration processes for most of its programs and ensuring continued selection of the skilled workers for permanent residence.

Express Entry is Canada’s one of the most popular immigration program, that invites applicants from three economic class programs which is the federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and the Canadian Experience Class.

The applicants under these programs are given a score or the Comprehensive Ranking System points on the basis of the human capital factors which includes the age, education, language ability, work experience, etc. Even the Provincial Nominee Program or LMIA employment score can also be added in the total CRS score for the ITA.

The highest-scoring candidates receive an ITA, which they can then use to apply for their permanent residency.

If there is a tie between the applicants, then IRCC uses the tie-breaker rule. Applicants who has a score of 468 or more in this draw should have their express entry profile submitted before June 04, 2020 at UTC 13:39:44 in order to get an ITA.

The draw on 23rd December 2020 saw a continued trend of decrease in each of its last four draws. This trend may be explained in part by the regular, two-week interval between draws that IRCC has maintained since September and the high number of ITAs that are being issued in recent draws.

With Canada’s recent announcement of high admission targets for the three programs of Express Entry and the PNP, Canada has had a record number of ITA’s in the recent draws. This year is the first since Express Entry’s launch in 2015, where the number of invitations sent has exceeded a number of 1,00,000.

A number of Express Entry-linked provincial nominee streams have been active in recent weeks.
