Is Parents & Grandparents Program 2020 (PGP) delayed?Posted by cadadmin in CIC News, on December 21, 2020
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) notified that it will delay the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) 2020 immigration lottery’s next round until early 2021.
The lottery was supposed to take place by the end of December 2020, but a number of factors which includes the Covid-19 pandemic has caused a delay.
IRCC had started the PGP expression of interest window to potential sponsors between October 13 and November 3, 2020, which was the first round of invitations.
During this round, the Canadian citizens and permanent residents filled out a form to notify IRCC of their desire to get their respective parents and grand parents to Canada.
After this, the IRCC will hold a randomized lottery that will invite up to 10,000 sponsors to submit their PGP applications for further processing.
IRCC was to hold the lottery for the submitted sponsors of Interest by the end of the year, however, the same has been delayed as per the latest news.
The reason of the delay:
IRCC mentioned that they are at present working through the already submitted applications and are removing duplicates and then they will further generate a randomized list start sending out invitations to apply.
As this program opened later than usual this year, and due to ongoing situation that is beyond anyone’s control which also includes the Covid-19 pandemic, potential sponsors will be invited to apply early in 2021.
What to expect from the Parents and Grandparents Program in 2021:
Next year will see a major intake for the Parents and Grandparents Program. Once the PGP 2020 lottery takes place and invitation will be sent out to the interested sponsors, then they will have up to 60 days to submit their applications to IRCC.
IRCC has already announced the PGP 2021 window will be triple the size of this year’s version.
IRCC in its window for the invitation will invite up to 30,000 sponsors under next year’s program.
The Canadian Citizens and the permanent residents have another option to the PGP, i.e. they can also apply for the Super Visa Program in order to get their parents and grandparents to Canada and the visa can be renewed and stays valid for up to 10 years.
