New Caregivers Programs Launching Soon

The Government is launching 2 new 5 year caregiver immigration pilot programs. This will replace programs that are ineffective or are expiring. The good news is that the new pilot programs will allow caregivers to come to Canada with their family. This program is designed so that the caregiver is easily able to get their permanent residency. Under this program applicants will need to meet permanent residency criteria before they begin working in Canada. After working for two years on a work permit the caregiver will be able to apply for permanent residency. These programs will be replacing the previous caregiver programs. The benefit of the new program is that the program will include occupation specific work permits and it will provide the ability to change jobs quickly when needed. The other main and important change is that spouses will be given open work permits and dependent children will be given study permits to allow the family to accompany the caregiver to Canada. Another program called the “Interim Program” for caregivers will be open from March 4, 2019 until June 4, 2019. This program will allow those caregivers to get permanent residency in Canada who have come to Canada and are providing care to Canadians.
