PARENTS GRANPARENTS PROGRAM- HOW MUCH INCOME DO I NEED TO SPONSOR MY RELATIVES?

This is a question which comes into every sponsor’s mind while planning to apply for Interest to Sponsor. For the Program, you, the sponsor and the co-signer (if any), must show enough income in order to support all the family members you will be financially responsible for and it includes your own self too.

Under the draw, if you get selected and are required to submit an application for invitation to apply, then you need to provide income requirements with proofs for each of the three tax years, before the date of application.

To elaborate, as PGP has started in October this year, the sponsors who get selected will be required to submit their applications in early months of 2021. Therefore, the sponsors will be assessed for their incomes for the tax years 2020, 2019 and 2018.

The table below shows the annual income requirement for each three years-

Since many sponsors may have been affected financially by the COVID-19 pandemic, the income requirement for the 2020 tax year have been reduced to the minimum necessary income, instead of the minimum necessary income plus 30%. However, this does not apply for the years 2019 and 2019.

Also, it has been notified that for 2020 tax year, the sponsor might not get their Notice of Assessment (NOA) until their application, So, for the 2020 process, IRCC will accept the applications with 2019 & 2018 NOA’s and the 2020 NOA can be submitted to IRCC as and when available.
