Northwest Territories Receives 47 Additional Nominations for Permanent Residence
The Government of the Northwest Territories (NWT) has announced an increase in its immigration allocation under the Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) for 2025.
Originally granted 150 nomination spaces, the territory has now received an additional 47 nominations, bringing the total to 197 for this year. The announcement was made on September 2, 2025 through an official government update.
Why the Additional Nominations?
The extra nomination spaces are intended to accommodate eligible applicants from the 2025 intake periods who had applied but were not selected due to limited allocations.
Applicants will be assessed in order of their work permit expiration dates. Eligible candidates will be contacted directly by email and placed in the NTNP assessment queue.
According to Caitlin Cleveland, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, these additional spaces will support the territory’s efforts to address labour shortages in critical industries.
About the Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP)
The NTNP provides multiple pathways for foreign nationals to obtain Canadian permanent residence:
1. Employer-Driven Stream
- Entry Level / Semi-Skilled Occupations
- Skilled Worker
- NWT Express Entry
➡ Requires a valid job offer from a NWT employer.
➡ Employers apply on behalf of candidates; individuals cannot apply directly.
2. Francophone Stream
- Tailored for French-speaking candidates.
➡ Also requires a valid job offer from a NWT employer.
3. Business Stream
- Designed for entrepreneurs and investors.
➡ Applicants can apply independently to start, purchase, or invest in a business in the NWT.
2025 NTNP Intake Periods
- First intake: February 27 – March 6, 2025
- Second intake: July 2 – July 9, 2025
Notably, the NTNP’s allocation was cut in half for 2025 (300 in 2024 down to 150 in 2025). However, several provinces and territories—including Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, and Yukon—have also successfully negotiated for increased allocations this year.
