Today a big news came in from Canadian Immigration Ministry that all the former international students who currently hold or have held a Post Study Work Permit, will now get an opportunity to apply for a fresh open work permit again. The new Open Work permit will be valid for 18 months, and the students can seek employment & work during this time period in Canada.
This is a great initiative taken by the Canadian Government to help international students during these challenging times.
Every year, the international students contribute more than $ 21 billion annually to the Canada’s economy and support the vitality of the communities. However, the covid-19 pandemic has caused many myriad challenges for the international students. A lot of students who hold the PGWP visa have been unable to find work and thus, consequently it has affected their process of obtaining the permanent residency in future.
But now, not anymore, all the foreign nationals with expired or about to expire PGWP will have another chance to apply and get a new Work Permit. This work permit will be valid for 18 months and will allow the former international students to stay in Canada, seek employment, work and hence build their future here in Canada.
Even during the pandemic, Canadian Government is putting efforts to help the immigrants and foreign students. This is because the students fill various jobs and labour shortages in the country, and bring strong language and employment skills along with their Canadian education and work experience. They become the most eligible candidates for Canada’s permanent residency. More than 58,000 graduates successfully applied to immigrate permanently in 2019, and their decisions to stay in Canada will help to address our stark demographic challenges.
A Canada is facing the second wave of the pandemic, a plan for the recovery, and attracting skilled immigration applicants will be the central plan of action for the Government. This immigration policy will get more graduate students in the areas with employment needs such as the health care, technology, and more.
As we look forward in time, it will help a lot of former international students in building their futures in Canada, contributing in various ways to Canada’s short-term recovery and long-term prosperity.
